POOL RULES:

  • Swim only when a lifeguard is on duty
  • Shower required before swimming (State Law)
  • No one allowed in pool with communicable disease, open wounds, are bleeding or wearing bandaids/bandage. (State Law)
  • Absolutely NO running, horseplay/throwing/pushing people, spitting, eating/drinking, gum chewing or hanging on lane lines.
  • Only YMCA approved bubbles may be used for flotation
  • Program equipment (barbells, noodles, toys, etc) is for lessons only. Lap swimmers may use kickboards and fins.
  • A responsible adult must accompany children under 7 in the water. The adult must be within "touching distance" of the child/children at all times.
  • Anyone who is over 7 who needs a bubble or is a non-swimmer must swim only in the shallow end.
  • Non-toilet trained children are required to wear tight fitting rubber pants or swim diapers. Disposable and cloth diapers are not allowed in the pool
  • Diving is only allowed in 9 feet of water. Forward entries only. No flips, twists, etc. are allowed.
  • Swimmers not adherent to the Melrose Y pool rules will be asked to leave

LAP SWIM RULES:

  • Please be courteous to other swimmers.
  • Always survey the speed of the swimmers in each lane, and then enter the lane appropriate for your swimming ability.
  • Alert each swimmer that you are entering the lane.
  • Swimmers must swim in a counter-clockwise direction when there are 3 or more people in the lane. When there are 2 swimmers in a lane, the 2 swimmers may agree to split the lane.
  • If the swimmer behind you taps your foot, please let that swimmer pass you at the end of that length.
  • Lap swimmers must be at least 16 years old.
  • Swimmers not adherent to the Melrose Y pool rules will be asked to leave

The lifeguard on duty has the final say in all safety matters.
