Interested in gymnastics? The Melrose Y is the place for you.
Gymnastics is a chance for your child to come and learn basic balance, coordination, and tumbling skills. The Melrose YMCA Gymnastics program offers a variety of classes for ages 18 months to 18 years.
Our Gymnastics Center has its own building. It is located at 156B Tremont Street in Melrose, right next door to the Sports Center. In that facility, we have all four competitive women's events (spring floor, balance beams, uneven parallel bars, and a vaulting horse), a 30 foot tumble track, and various pieces of preschool gymnastics equipment.
Preschool Gymnastics Programs Tiny Tumblers Open Gym ( 18 months - 4 years) You and your Tiny Tumbler will have supervised, but not structured, time to use our preschool equipment. Space is limited. Babysitting is available for siblings at $3.00 per hour per child. Registration is required. (Adult participation is required for all Tiny Tumbler Open Gym classes. To ensure safety and productivity, one adult per child. No exceptions!) Tiny Tumblers ( 18-36 months ) This 45 minute semi-structured class will allow you and your Tiny Tumbler to use all of our preschool equipment and gymnastics apparatus. Class will begin with basic stretching and movement activities. There will be two featured events per class. The teacher will give specific help and instruction on these events for anyone who wishes to take advantage of our knowledgeable and friendly staff. Adult participation is required for all Tiny Tumbler Open Gym classes. To ensure safety and productivity, one adult per child. Rising Stars ( 2 1/2 - 3 years old ) This 45 minute structured class will introduce your Rising Star to the world of movement and coordination. Preschool equipment as well as our gymnastics apparatus will be used on a weekly basis. Our knowledgeable staff will introduce very basic gymnastics skills, strength and flexibility techniques.
Shooting Stars ( 3 & 4 years old ) This 45 minute structured class will help your Shooting Star continue to learn basic gymnastics. Our preschool equipment and gymnastics apparatus will be used on a weekly basis. Our knowledgeable staff will introduce basic gymnastics skills, strength and flexibility techniques. Note: child must be able to separate from parent and be willing/able to follow instructions. Gym Stars ( 4 & 5 years ) This 45 minute structured class will allow your Gym Star to continue to learn basic gymnastics. Each week our preschool equipment and gymnastics apparatus will be utilized. Body position, strength and flexibility will be emphasized. |
Preschool Gymnastics Programs (Cont.) Advanced Gym Stars Instructor recommendation is required. This 60 minute structured class will take your Gym Star to a higher level of gymnastics. Progression on all four Olympic events will be taught. Body position, strength and flexibility will also be emphasized. Youth Gymnastics Programs (Grades K-6)
Gym Kids Gym Kids will have the opportunity to be challenged and experience success on all types of gymnastics equipment. Basic gymnastics progressions on bars, beam, vault, tumbling and trampoline will be the focus. Body position, strength and flexibility will all be emphasized. Gym Kids 1 groups ages 5-8 years in one class. Gym Kids 2 groups ages 9-13 in another class. Prep Team Instructor recommendation is required. Prep Team has two 90 minute classes per week. (Saturday class is once a week). This class will help prepare your gymnast for our competitive gymnastics team.

Our gymnastics team program is for gymnasts who have a higher commitment level for the sport. Level 3 is the only non-competitive level in our team program. They focus on the development of skills, flexibility, and strength. Levels 4-9 are competitive levels which are progressive through skill development. Our gymnasts compete in the Eastern Mass. YMCA league. They also compete on the YMCA state, regional, and national levels.
