Child Care Power Outage Policy
We would like to take this opportunity to inform you of our emergency plan and procedure to deal with a loss of power. This applies to both the Melrose and Stoneham locations.
First, a decision is made whether or not it is necessary to evacuate the building. The Director (given loss of power, heat, or water) will assess if the situation is short-term (one to two hours, and repairable), or long-term (2+ hours and unrepairable) within the timeframe. The Director will contact police, fire, or electrical crews to obtain an accurate assessment of the situation, and will proceed upon their reccomendations. If it is decided that that the problem will not be able to be repaired within 3 hours, the Center will notify parents of the Center's closure, and parents will need to pick their children up within a 45 minute timeframe.
Although these occurances are usually rare, it is in these instances that you must have an emergency pick up plan in place in case you are unable to pick your child(ren) up during this time frame. Please take a moment and check to make sure that your emergency contact list is up to date, and that the people listed would be able to pick up in an emergency situation in the event that you are unable to.
If you have any questions about this policy, please contact Cathy Flynn, Director of Child Care in Melrose, at 781-665-8522 or email cathy.flynn@melroseymca.org.
For Stoneham, contact Maureen McGurl, Director of Child Care in Stoneham, at 781-279-2002 or email maureen.mcgurl@melroseymca.org.
