Counselor-In-Training (CIT) Program (13-15 years old)

Through participation in our camp CIT program it is expected that our CIT's will increase self-confidence as well as assist in the identification of their personal strengths. CIT's will receive individualized mentoring from experienced staff members and will be actively engaged in assisting our camps. CIT's will get to experience working in a variety of camps that the Melrose YMCA has to offer (YMCA Cricket, Gymnastics Camp, Sports Camp, and Stoneham Summer Camp) as well as getting to enjoy one big field trip a week.

While being a part of our CIT program, CIT's will be assigned to assist a specific member of a camp staff. They may serve as referees in games, as team captains, as group leaders, and as assistants in specialty areas such as arts and crafts or music. They may be assigned the responsibility of keeping track of sports equipment, taking attendance, designing a theme day, sharing a skill or interest with campers, as well helping younger children with activities, projects and games. This CIT program will allow us to identify, train, and nurture our young teens into future staff.

Admission to the Melrose YMCA CIT Program is by application only. Applications are available at 497 Main Street, the Sports Center and on-line. Applications will be accepted until Friday, May 14, 2010. Self motivated, enthusiastic, mature teens with an interest in child care or camp who can be positive role models to our campers are encouraged to apply.
